Tiwa Savage the Pop star who has ruled Nigeria's airwaves for 4years and still counting...
Just a little over five years into her
career, Tiwa Savage has remained a
household name in Nigeria even after
her short hiatus from the music scene
following the birth of her baby.
She has had great success ever since her
first come out in 2010 and has achieved
a lot within that short period.
From ‘Kele Kele Love’ to “Ife Wa
Gbona” to ‘Eminado’, Tiwa is known for
back to back hits.
Born 5th February, 1980 as Tiwa Savage,
she was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, London
and the United States.
She graduated with a degree in Business
administration from the University of
Kent and went on to enroll at Berklee
College of Music graduating with a
degree in professional music at the age
of 27.
From the age of 16, Tiwa did backup
vocals for George Michael and lent vocals
to other musicians such as Mary J. Blige,
Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton,
Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, among
others.
She has also performed on stage with
Sting, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas,
Eminem, Robbie Williams and Destiny’s
Child and is currently signed to Sony/
ATV Music Publishing.
Her collaboration with Fantasia on the
song “Collard Greens & Cornbread”
earned the American recording artist a
Grammy nomination in 2010.
Tiwa established her own label imprint,
323 Entertainment, with her manager
and husband Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun
and joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records in
2012 after the label she co-owns teamed
up with the executive producer.
She released her debut single “Kele Kele
Love” (2011) as the first single from her
debut studio album Once Upon a Time in
2013 which made its way to the top of
several Nigerian music charts.
She immediately became a household
name in the music industry and released
other hit tracks icluding, ‘Love Me’,
‘Olorun Me’, ‘Ife Wa Gbona’, ‘Eminado’,
‘My Darling’ and others.
Her efforts did not go
unnoticed. Her achievements include one
MTV Africa Music Award, two Headies
Awards, one Channel O Music Video
Award, one Nigeria Music Video Award,
and two City People Entertainment
Awards, among others.
She has also gotten endorsements: In July
2013, Tiwa signed an endorsement deal
with MTN Nigeria allegedly worth N30
million and also signed endorsement
deals with Pepsi, Forte Oil and Maggi.
