Two goals from Super Eagles forward Gbolahan Salami handed Warri Wolves a perfect end to the season as they trashed relegated Taraba FC 5 – 1 in a rescheduled game played at the Warri city stadium today, November 16. Salami’s first of his brace came in the 13 minutes from the penalty spot after he was upended inside the box on his way to goal. The energetic striker picked up himself and slotted pass the goalkeeper to open the scoring for his team. Taraba drew level four minutes later through an own goal by Uche Ossai. Abu Azeez gave Wolves the lead in the 59 th minute when he drilled home a left-footed strike from six yards out. Lordson Ichull made it 3-1 after he fired home from 16 yards after he was set up by Joseph Osadiaye. Freedom Omofoman compounded Taraba FC’s woes when he increased the tally six minutes later during a goalmouth scramble, before Salami completed his brace from the penalty spot on the dot of time after he was again fouled inside the box. READ ALSO: Akas Chima Promises A Better Return-Leg Salami’s brace sees him end the season on 17 goals, as he won the league golden boot (being the first to win the award named after late Super Eagles goal icon, Rashidi Yekini). Warri Wolves second place finish is an improvement to their third position in the league last season. Adeniji Tunde – 16 goals, Esosa Igbinoba (15 goals), Bright Ejike (13 goals) and Chisom Chikatara (13 goals), make up the top 5 highest goal scorers of the league. Wolves finished as runners-up with 66 points from 38 matches, four points behind champions Enyimba, and they will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League, while Nasarawa United who finished third, will feature in the Confederation Cup.
